Why haven't education reform efforts amounted to much? Because they start with the wrong problem, says John Abbott, director of the 21st Century Learning
"Any kid can read a textbook — they don't need a teacher standing over them telling them to do so. They need teachers to inspire them to think about things in a much bigger way than they've done before."
On a practical level, the most powerful lever for change, Abbott says, is people coming together to “rethink the role of community in the learning process,” agreeing how to divide up responsibilities among professional teachers and other community members, and then launching small pilot projects that are true to their new vision. These efforts will build on each other, he says, and large-scale change will follow.

In this article, I look at some of the trends and key findings for 2014 based on the NVD’s database. . #Mac OS X and #Linux had more #vulnerabilities in 2014 than ALL #Windows Versions in sum. . Not surprisingly at all, web browsers continue to have the most security vulnerabilities because they are a popular gateway to access a server and to spread malware on the clients. Adobe free products and Java are the main challengers but web browsers have continuously topped the table for the last six years. Mozilla Firefox had the most vulnerabilities reported in 2009 and 2012; Google Chrome in 2010 and 2011; Internet Explorer was at the top for the last two years. To keep systems secure, it is critical that they are fully patched. IT admins should focus on (patch them first):

By 3 October, I knew this month was going to be a bad one. Before the month had even kicked off, 76 million customers of JPMorgan Chase had been affected by a massive data breach. October just went downhill from that point. Below, I have listed over 35 cyber attacks, data breaches, information security threats and other types of attacks, but October has been so bad that I could have easily stretched the list out to more than 80. When we look at each in turn it becomes easy to understand why EQ plays such a key role success.

The ultimate goal of teaching is understanding. But sometimes it’s easier to talk than to teach, as we all know, especially when we need to cover a lot of material in a short amount of time. We hope students will understand, if not now then before test time, and we keep our fingers crossed that their results will indicate we’ve done our job. The problem is, we often rely on these tests to measure understanding and then we move on. There isn’t always time to address weaknesses and misunderstandings after the tests have been graded, and by that time it’s too late for students to be interested.

The closed-by-default ecosystem makes it harder for this malware to successfully take hold of the platform, but there remains a subsection of users who'll gladly disable Mac OS X security measures – especially people who use pirated software. This means that those looking to hijack OS X systems for a variety of reasons know that they simply need to bundle their malware with desirable software (probably in the form of a key generator) to enjoy widespread success. Due to widespread beliefs about the security of the OS X platform, these systems are also unlikely to have an antimalware solution installed that will flag the infection so once the malware is installed, so it's likely to go unnoticed for a very long time.
