What's the secret of success while innovating? I hear you screaming already: I would like to be innovative, I even have some ideas BUT I am fearing about WHAT OTHERS would say and think about!! To be honest, NEVER look about WHAT OTHERS would say, innovation is something NEW and the new will…

Blogs: Do They Serve Any Real Purpose? | #Blogging #ICT #Communication #LEARNing2LEARN #LEARNingByDoing

Blogs: Do They Serve Any Real Purpose? | #Blogging #ICT #Communication #LEARNing2LEARN #LEARNingByDoing | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it
Does the average person even know or understand what a blog is? Do professionals understand how blogs influence their profession? Are teachers using blogs as both relevant reading and writing tools? Are students using blogs to create their voice? Do people in general see any importance in blogging to reflect, question, criticize, or improve the world in which we live?

Do blogs have a value in our world today that is at least understood, if not appreciated, by those who should? Does the access to blogs require too much tech savvy, critical thinking, and a mindset different from the 20th Century to prevent the acceptance of blogs as a change force in our 21st Century world?

Will a large enough group of people even read this post to make a difference or will people need to print it out to share copies with others?

Teachers' Guide to Using Blogs in Class

Teachers' Guide to Using Blogs in Class | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it
In an earlier post here in Educational Technology and Mobile Learning, we argued that setting up a class virtual space in the cloud is an indispensable task for today's teachers. This space can preferably be a website, a blog, or a wiki or, if possible, all of them. The educational benefits of having such a space for students include:
  • Improve students writing skills through posting and commenting
  • Helps students have a voice
  • Promote the notion of independent and personalized learning
  • Promote a spirit of collaboration among students
  • Engage parents in the learning taking place in the classroom
  • Connect with students from other schools and exchange with them learning experiences.

Potential Power of Blogging for Pedagogy

Potential Power of Blogging for Pedagogy | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it
I believe in the potential power of blogging. I believe it can be harnessed to be a powerful pedagogical tool in the 21st Century.

4 Benefits of Integrating Blogging into Pedagogy

1. Blogs promote participation and collaboration of knowledge and skills. There are a myriad of resources available on the internet that can help students become creators, and not merely consumers of different texts and bodies of knowledge.

2. Blogs promote global communication and collaboration. Teachers can facilitate interactions with diverse cultures, ethnicities, and religions, and social contexts. Students can be helped to challenging their thinking by considering other viewpoints.

3. Blogs promote the critical analysis of pedagogy and literacies.

4. Blogs create the potential for interactive spaces for authentic exchanges. Strategies including reading logs, book reviews, parental communication, encouraging reading and writing and responding around a particular theme or focus.

If we can harness this power, we have a strong pedagogical tool on our hands. As with other areas in education, we can begin to harness this power by asking ourselves the right kinds of questions that can bring about the results we want to see.
