Was ist das Münchner Lernhauskonzept? | #EDUcation #Germany | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it

Teachers as Technology Trailblazers: The 2014 Horizon Report Focuses on Pedagogy

Teachers as Technology Trailblazers: The 2014 Horizon Report Focuses on Pedagogy | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it

The Horizon Report, an annual paper that focuses on the emerging trends for technology and schools, is often recognized for the ways it analyzes TOOLS.

.
However, this year, it's taken a different approach. The insightful group of educators (including my boss, Rob Mancabelli) guiding the report decided that the two fast trends for teaching and learning with technology are strongly focused onPEDAGOGY.
.
Specifically, the two fast trends are cited in the report as follows:
  • Rethinking the roles of teachers
  • Shift to deeper learning approaches
In short, the changes that are happening this year specifically relate to the way we teach and the way we learn.

Pedagogy - 'Disillusioned' teachers bored by chalk and talk

Pedagogy - 'Disillusioned' teachers bored by chalk and talk | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it
Traditional methods do not suit modern classrooms, expert says

Professor Fullan identifies them as the root of the problem. But he stresses that the new methods of teaching he describes take teachers beyond being “mere facilitators” to becoming “partners” who recognise the “importance of proactively learning alongside students”.

“Through such partnering, teachers not only become learners themselves, but also begin to see learning through the eyes of their students,” he writes.

“This ‘visibility’ is essential if teachers are to continuously challenge students to reach for the next step.”

The report acknowledges that many of the teaching strategies it describes have been “advocated for at least a century by the likes of Dewey, Piaget, Montessori and Vygotsky”.

But it says that today’s conditions means they are now being widely embraced: “

Through the combination of the ‘push’ of traditional schooling that fails to keep students or teachers engaged, and the ‘pull’ of new pedagogies unleashed through digital access, the transformation of education systems on a broad scale becomes not only possible, but inevitable.”

This article is very insightful. It clearly explains and demonstrates the differences that have occured in education over the last 20 years, particularly in the context of technology. Mobile learning is becoming more prominent in classrooms and requires teachers to be active participants in the use of technology.

educational-origami - 21st Century Pedagogy

educational-origami - 21st Century Pedagogy | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it

How we teach must reflect how our students learn. It must also reflect the world our students will move into. This is a world which is rapidly changing, connected, adapting and evolving. Our style and approach to teaching must emphasise the learning in the 21st century..

Via Dr. Susan Bainbridge
Tony Meehan's curator insight, June 29, 2014 2:41 PM

For those who are just getting to grips with the power of Twitter, e.g. me, the awareness of just how quickly the world around us is changing comes sharply in to focus.  pupils in schools today have grown up with this understanding, and we, as educators, have a huge responsibility to bring our practice up to date and in line with this rapidly changing world. Young people can in theory cut themselves off from the world and, through the power of technology keep themselves to themselves, entertain themselves 24/7.  They don't need us.  But they do, in order to help them grow and develop as human beings, to learn to control the media to which they have such ready access, not to be controlled by it.

This article outlines how pedagogy in this golden age of technology needs to change.  It provides a good platform for continuing professional development.
