Apple TV In The Classroom: 4 Reasons To Try It Out - Edudemic

Apple TV In The Classroom: 4 Reasons To Try It Out - Edudemic | Educational iPad User Group | Scoop.it

"f you like to use your iPhone, iPad or laptop in your classroom because it allows you to effortlessly navigate the learning space, one of the greatest frustrations can be having to constrain yourself to the vicinity of the projector cable every time you want to share your screen with the class.

I have seen this as a common practice even in open plan learning environments, which instantly does away with it’s greatest feature by forcing the teacher to move back to the front of the room.

Whilst you can get wireless projectors at great expense, have you ever thought of using Apple’s $99 Apple TV? I hadn’t until recently, but since using it I could never go back to a physical projector/tv connection for the following 4 reasons:

Why Teachers Are Trying Out Apple TV In The Classroom - Edudemic

Why Teachers Are Trying Out Apple TV In The Classroom - Edudemic | Educational iPad User Group | Scoop.it

Apple TV is a little black box that can work miracles in a classroom. Built largely for entertaining purposes by Apple, Apple TV is used increasingly in the classroom by educators who primarily want to take advantage of the mirroring capabilities of the device. For those who are not familiar with the term “mirroring”, simply put, a key feature in Apple devices called “AirPlay” can literally mirror or project your device’s screen (iPod/iPad/iPhone), via an LCD projector that is connected to the Apple TV. All you need aside from an Apple TV is an iPad 2 or newer, an LCD projector, and then, the sky is the limit.

I agree on all counts. We are using Apple TV aon the HS level and it's faster connectivity with more functionality.

Niels Jakob Pasgaard's comment, January 22, 2013 2:17 AM
I agree, that the iPad/AppleTV combination is better than the IWB. However, I don’t think any of them are of great value when it comes to the learning outcome.

Give each student the opportunity to bring their own device instead.
Leanna K Johnson's comment, January 22, 2013 10:39 AM
Niels, I also allow students to use their own devices or incorporate them into our activities. But they must be able to adapt themselves. The sharing of this idea is for the purpose of comparative outcomes.
