Managing: The Nuts & Bolts of an iPad Classroom...

"Purchasing the iPads was the easy part. Managing them is another matter. Dean Shareski says that “iPads are meant to be owned, not managed.” I think he is correct, but managing them still needs to be done for my grade one students."

A Friendly Guide to Deploying iPads at Your School

A Friendly Guide to Deploying iPads at Your School | Educational iPad User Group | Scoop.it

Deploying iPads at any kind of scale is just short of maddening. While the process of tapping around to install one app on one iPad isn’t too bad, installing a dozen apps on hundreds iPads isn’t a particularly appealing way to spend a month. If you are going to deploy iPads at scale, you need a strategy. You need a battle plan. In addition, you will also need to stay hydrated. I don’t think I’ve discovered the silver bullet, but I’ll share some of my experiences with you in order to, hopefully, shorten the learning curve.

One approach to setting up the iPad for shared use among multiple users | Emerging Education Technology

One approach to setting up the iPad for shared use among multiple users | Emerging Education Technology | Educational iPad User Group | Scoop.it
The iPad is inherently an individualized device - 'Our Pad' makes it easier to work around that.

A growing number of faculty and staff members at The College of Westchester have been using iPads and we’re always learning more about their functionality and potential uses. One idea that comes up from time to time is the possibility of using them in multi-user situations. Perhaps we could have iPads available to loan for use within the Library, or maybe a few people in a department or work group might want to share the use of one?

Video Demo on Using the Apple Configurator

Video Demo on Using the Apple Configurator | Educational iPad User Group | Scoop.it

This video walks though the process of supervising a device within Apple Configurator. Supervision is a more locked-down approach for device setup and focuses a bit more on a shared iPad scenario where users do not have ownership of the device and having it in a known state for everyone is beneficial. Using Apple Configurator, you have the ability to apply a configuration to USB connected devices in a continuous manner, reducing the time required to set them up. The functionality of iPhone Configuration Utility is included in the application as well.
