This article comes as a great surprise just as we are considering BOYD in school. Research according to the article suggests that laptops might be more of a distraction than a tool to augment learning. Grades drop as a result of social networking. Students are zoned out because of being constantly connected. We once blamed television for deteriorating concentration spans, laptops have reduced concentration spans even more. Let us not jump on to the bandwagon, let us research further whether we should really allow school students to bring their own devices to school.
