Applying Technology in Physical Education Class: Oh, the Possibilities

Applying Technology in Physical Education Class: Oh, the Possibilities | Educational Technology News | Scoop.it

"For some time now, using technology to facilitate learning in K-12 classrooms has been a growing focus in many schools. From art classes to science projects, the technology tools have been increasingly instrumental to enhancing the learning process. But how can technology be applied in physical education classes?"

Brennan Dempsey's comment, May 29, 2018 6:35 AM
Wow what a great article for pre-serviced as well as seasoned professionals. This has given me great insight to many new ways to implement ICT into the Physical Education classroom. The examples are great and effective as they are simple fixes that can create invaluable time for other projects. The examples are extremely thorough and they show exactly how engagement through ICT can be effective. Do you have any other ideas that could possibly transform the classroom further?
Lewis McLure's curator insight, May 31, 2018 8:53 PM
This article is extremely useful for me as a future Physical Education Teacher. When people think of PE they often don't think that it would have much to do with ICT or technology, however, this article showed exactly how teachers can incorporate technology into our classroom. This article gave many ideas and possibilities of how ICT and technology can be Incorporated into the PE classroom and practical classes itself. Some of the ideas mentioned include wearable tech to collect data such as heart rates as well as information gathering through online resources and videos. I will use this article to develop a learning sequence that uses ICT in the physical education classroom.
Jessica Grange's curator insight, May 25, 2019 11:49 PM
Very true, the possibilities are endless. There are so many different apps which could be used in the HPE classroom (on tablets/iPads or students phones if the school permits it) for many different reasons (i.e. stopwatches, fitness trackers, food diaries, mindfulness and meditation, etc.). The incorporation of wearable technologies is also something that I think needs to happen as they are becoming more popular (particularly smart watches), so we may as well use them!

Helping Teachers Use Technology and Technology Experts Teach

Helping Teachers Use Technology and Technology Experts Teach | Educational Technology News | Scoop.it

"Although many teachers now have grown-up in the technology age, many traditional or “old-school” teachers are still not feeling equipped to teach in the classroom of the 21st century."

rodrick rajive lal's curator insight, July 22, 2017 2:56 AM
Strangely enough, there continues to be resistance towards the use of technology amongst a large number of teachers who have graduated till the nineties. Fortunately enough many of them use smartphones! Optimum integration of technology in teaching will happen only when teachers are involved in the decision-making process, they are given enough training and support rather than being dumped into the deep end, and yes, the technology should be 'user-friendly'. We have moved away from chalk and talk, we use laptops and projectors in class, we have wifi, and are soon going have students bringing their own devices.

This article is a great read for current and future administrators. This article outlines questions that should be asked in a teacher interview. The questions range from how do you develop a student to how does a teacher plan their personal growth. As an administrator, having good questions for a teacher interview is important. Making sure they have goals that are in line with the school will help in the interviewing process.

The Rise of the Fidget Spinner: What, Where, When, and How | Educational Technology News | Scoop.it

"Anyone outside of the education realm, or who does not regularly interact with children, might assume that a fidget spinner is some sort of spaceship contraption or an obscure item found on the shelves of a home improvement store. However, teachers, parents and, of course, children know all too well what a fidget spinner is—and we know that you will likely hear one before you will see one."

Is the digital divide entirely different from what we think it is? | Educational Technology News | Scoop.it
Interestingly, closing the digital divide within classrooms may have more to do with digital citizenship than hardware.
Jillian Schaibly's curator insight, July 25, 2017 5:56 PM
I really enjoyed this article as it discussed the citizenship with students and technology. What this means is school teaching students how to use the internet and apps appropriately. This is helpful in students learning what is appropriate and inappropriate on the web and social media. Principals need to be aware of this as online bullying is a huge issue.

Teacher Leaders In the 21st Century

Teacher Leaders In the 21st Century | Educational Technology News | Scoop.it

"As we find ourselves standing on the fault lines of shifting paradigms in education question about how we lead and will be lead seem to surface with between each mini quake and aftershock. The reoccurring rumbles to develop a mindset and culture that embraces failing, thinking outside the box, and risk taking, feel shaky when they originate from a group specifically selected because of their lack of failure, ability to maneuver within the box, and their skill to mitigate risk. New pedagogies require that we follow differently as much as that we be led differently."
