"People just put it out there," Kaye told the Times, "and then we're left to pick up the pieces when the injuries start mounting."

Spokesperson from the Ministry of business, innovation and employment said:

"The main cause for concern with these hoverboards appears to be the fire hazard they present. That's down to the use of lithium ion batteries used in these things."
