Teaching Strategies for When Students Say “I Don’t Know”

Teaching Strategies for When Students Say “I Don’t Know”
Valeria Garcia Lopez's curator insight, May 7, 2018 8:44 AM
I think in every classroom there is one or more students that say "I don't know" when they are asked about something related to the class. However, this article gives some tips that are of help for us (teachers) to know what to do in this case. It is important to keep in mind that the words "I don't know" may have different meanings, for instance, there are students who don't really know about the subject  but they are open to get new knowledge. Other students are just shy and don't like to participate because they think their classmats will laugh; if that is the case, we can start discussions through the internet or face to face just with that student. Finally, if a student says "I don't know", we can help him to come up with the answer step by step.
