Thanks! Great site to see human impact on our planet.
Miss Bullock's curator insight, May 11, 2020 5:34 PM
This tool is really useful for students studying the value of our ecosystems as the timelapse shows changes to the environment over time. The interactive timelines, which show how habitats have changed due to things like urban growth, bushfires or deforestation, bring to life concerns that a textbook alone would not allow. Tools like this are used by professionals, offering students real-world opportunities to engage with the work of a scientist.

Singapore: World Class Education Embraces EdTech and Skills Based Learning  by ISAIAH ZHAO

Singapore: World Class Education Embraces EdTech and Skills Based Learning  by ISAIAH ZHAO | iGeneration - 21st Century Education (Pedagogy & Digital Innovation) | Scoop.it
Country Embraces Education Technology at a National Level In a little-known city state in South East Asia lies the world’s top performing primary and secondary school students in maths and science (http://www.bbc.com/news/education-38131731). Yet, even after achieving remarkable success, it is
Tan Ling Xuan's comment, March 5, 2017 2:47 AM
I feel an immense pride in our education system. We are constantly adapting to the world’s changing needs and adopting relatively fresh and unique elements into our conventional system. This makes one feel secure that efficace education policies are implemented to ensure that Singaporean students stay relevant and competent in this 21st century. As the article has mentioned, Singapore has looked into alternative approaches such as utilizing technology in a bid to provide students more opportunities for hands-on experience and bring about ease and convenience in one’s learning. Hence, as a Singaporean, I feel blessed to be nurtured in a progressive and reflective education system which many countries seek to emulate.
Brian Chew's comment, March 8, 2017 9:55 AM
I feel that it is very smart of the Singapore education system to be shifting from a very skills-based education, to one that adapts technology into learning. Even though Singapore boasts a good education system, the fact that Singapore realises it still has a huge room for improvement is great, because it is this constant strive for improvement that will let Singapore develop and grow. Furthermore, no matter how well developed or great an aspect of Singapore is, we should not be boasting about it and be doing nothing to improve, as to every well developed aspect that Singapore has, there are also many flaws or points in improvement in them too. Furthermore, if we get complacent and do not strive to change and improve for the better, it would only be time before we start losing out to other countries. Hence, I feel that it is great that Singapore realises that, even with the amazing education system she has, there are still points for improvement, and i am glad that she is continuing to strive to improve,
vera lee rui qi's curator insight, March 19, 2017 6:42 AM

What is the process?

The government built an education system that is capable of churning workers suitable for the industrial age in Singapore. Top scorers are rewarded with government scholarships to study in prestigious universities worldwide as a sign of their capability. From young, students were taught to study hard and work their way into a university and then consequently get good jobs. There has always been an over-emphasis on grades starts young where they are streamed into various secondary schools.

Why do they use technology in education?

Educators in Singapore have been turning increasingly to technology for help. Ed-tech exists not merely in classroom settings to help students learn through simulations and to help students find faster and cheaper alternate ways to learn beyond the classroom.

Who does this affect?

Students. Nanyang Girls High School and River Valley High School, two prestigious secondary schools in Singapore have completed eradicated traditional textbooks by replacing them with Ipads. The schools have designed e-textbooks to be used for iPads and students no longer have to carry their heavy textbooks to school.
