Connecting Researchers to New Digital Tools | Not Dead Yet

Connecting Researchers to New Digital Tools | Not Dead Yet | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it
A couple of months ago I got an email from my colleague Chris Erdmann (Data Scientist Training for Librarians) at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics. He wanted to talk about ways librarians could help keep the scholarly community informed about new and developing technologies that could affect its work. He’s been following Thomas Crouzier’s blog, Connected Researchers, and talking with other interested, interesting folks such as Amy Brand at Digital Science. Chris and Amy thought that a discussion among a group of librarians and other stakeholders in the scholarly process could be a promising beginning for brainstorming ideas and strategies.

10 Great Tools for Academic Research You Should Know about ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it

Compared with how academic research was carried out in the pre-internet era, It seems like technology is really a godsend gift to researchers. From easy and unlimited access to journal articles to web tools that do the referencing and auto-syncing, everything has been digitized making it way easier for todays researchers to add to the body of the human knowledge than any time in history.

As a web 2.0 researcher and a graduate student in the faculty of education in Mount Saint Vincent University, I have had the chance to experiment with a wide variety of web tools that can make your academic life much more easier. Below are some of the web tools I have been recommending to undergraduate, graduate, postgraduate and PHD students, and professors. Check them out below and make sure you share them with your colleagues, they could be in dire need for them.

The role of ego in academic profile services: Comparing Google Scholar, ResearchGate, Mendeley, and ResearcherID | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it
Academic profiling services are a pervasive feature of scholarly life. Alberto Martín-Martín, Enrique Orduna-Malea and Emilio Delgado López-Cózar discuss the advantages and disadvantages of major profile platforms and look at the role of ego in how these services are built and used. Scholars validate these services by using them and should be aware that the portraits shown in these platforms depend to a great extent on the characteristics of the “mirrors” themselves.

6 Great Academic Groups for Teachers and Student Researchers ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it

The technology I blog about has helped me not only in my teaching but also in my research as a graduate student in The Mount University, department of education. From note-taking to reference mining and data curation, technology has always been the magic stick I lean on to organize my digital workflow and increase my academic productivity. I know the majority of the readers of EducationalTechnology and Mobile Learning are related, in a way or another, to academia and several of you are graduate or post graduate students like me and this is why I sometimes I find myself obliged to sit down and share with my fellow academics the best technology tips and tools I discover and which can hep them in their academic endeavours.
