Students lead their own learning through independent research on tablets and by working in groups to solve problems and present solutions. Collaboration is encouraged and accepted as a way of discovering answers, asking peers for support or feedback and sharing findings with the group and the teacher.

Carla Kessler's curator insight, November 30, 2014 1:31 PM

A quick read with useful reminders. My favorite is below. We often had tense debates in our staff meetings about failure being final in our gradebooks.

"Games are about mastering skills and players are typically allowed to keep trying until they are successful.

Recording failure into the gradebook can stifle risk taking...Allowing students to keep trying until they are successful can help them to try things they would not have otherwise tried."

Alex Enkerli's curator insight, December 3, 2014 5:48 PM

A neat part of this list is that it isn’t really about gamification or serious games though it can bring insight to both.

YouTube is blocked in many schools. There’s no denying the fact that many school administrators want to avoid having students watch things that are, well, less than educational. Seven Mistakes to Avoid When Writing Multiple-Choice Questions

Seven Mistakes to Avoid When Writing Multiple-Choice Questions | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it
The goal of any well-constructed test is to test students’ expertise on a topic and not their test-taking skills. We need to eliminate as many flaws in our questions as we can to “provide a level playing field for testwise and not-so-testwise students. The probability of answering a question correctly should relate to an examinee's expertise on the topic and should not relate to their expertise on test-taking strategies.” (NMBE, 2001, p 19)
