The first of many points about why what VW did was an ineffective and unsound strategy of deflection and deception that makes for poor decision making inside of the firm. Guaranteed that there will be more issues that reflect back to VW and others that such tactics to avoid compliance will not only backfire they will damage the firm as a brand, and hence long term sales, in terms of competitive intelligence, this is what is called "blowback", (a term originally used to convey the effect that the CIA reaped when it's activities inside of other nations became exposed and brought about an anti-American sentiment.)
