Useful Apps and Resources to Help Students Learn Coding - Educators Technology

Useful Apps and Resources to Help Students Learn Coding - Educators Technology | iPads, MakerEd and More in Education | Scoop.it
Coding is an essential skill for 21st century students.  'When kids learn to code' , Mitch Resnick states, ' it enables them to learn many other things, opens up many new opportunities for learning. It's useful to make an analogy to reading and writing, when you learn to read and write it opens up opportunities for you to learn so many other things, when you learn to read you can then read to learn, which is the same thing with coding, if you learn to code you can code to learn.'

50 Of The Best Writing Apps For The iPad -

50 Of The Best Writing Apps For The iPad - | iPads, MakerEd and More in Education | Scoop.it
The best writing apps for iPad, like any concept of ‘best,’ is subjective and further based on need and circumstance.

Are you a poet drafting when inspiration strikes? A student taking notes and writing essays? A novelist that usually uses a desktop, but needs their new iPad Pro to do work on the go?

While the idea of writing more than a few hundred words on an iPad may seem crazy, using the iPad as a powerful portable writing tool allows you to take advantage of inspiration whenever and wherever it strikes. And with iPad screens now approaching 13″ and capable of supporting USB connections to enable standalone keyboards, it’s easier and more comfortable than ever to draft a masterpiece while away from your desk with the help of an app, an iPad, and a good idea.

6 Great Apps for Teaching Kids About Important Health Topics | Emerging Education Technologies

6 Great Apps for Teaching Kids About Important Health Topics | Emerging Education Technologies | iPads, MakerEd and More in Education | Scoop.it
Health education is one of the most important parts of schooling, but current techniques and curriculum tend to be a bit outdated — old books and even older information is being reiterated over and over, teaching the next generation dated science about how the body works.

Even when the info was current, these old teaching methods go in one ear and out the other for many in this generation — they’re immersed in technology from a very young age, often before they’re old enough to speak or walk. Health apps are the best high-tech way to teach kids about their bodies and how to keep them in shape. What are the best health apps for teaching K-12 students about health?
Alexandria nastasi's curator insight, May 8, 2019 9:58 PM
Allowing students to have access to apps that teach them about the importance of health and for the most part would be covering content taught in class allows for another opportunity of learning. Because every student learns differently this can be a useful tool in increasing learning gains by allowing students to take responsibility and own their education a concept well known to the world of digital pedagogies. Setbacks to this pedagogy are the acknowledgment of funding and equal opportunity of access if students don't have devices to access the apps.

The new Periodic Table of iPad Apps for Primary aged pupils

The new Periodic Table of iPad Apps for Primary aged pupils | iPads, MakerEd and More in Education | Scoop.it
First things first. It’s never just about the apps. End of. That said being guided around tried and tested apps from the classroom can be really helpful. With that in mind, back in 2014 I created my first periodic table of iPad apps. Little did I realise how popular it would be with more than 7 million downloads in those two years. As with most things to do with technology, times move on and apps change, new technologies bring new ways to use technology to enhance learning. What has been interesting in the process of creating the periodic table has been looking at the apps which still work really well at doing what they do best. Interestingly, many of the apps on this updated table were on the original table too but there are plenty of new ones to look at too. Overwhelmingly, the majority of apps shown are free too.
