I would really like to see 'how' they used the devices in the classroom. I can see this as another case of blame the technology (device) rather than the learning design for the activities.
I would have thought that a device with a range of scientific instruments included in it (gyroscope, accelerometer, two cameras), would be more useful for collecting and reporting on data/events than a keyboard with a screen. Sounds like a typewriter vs an educational swiss army knife to me.
Do we want our children to be able to ask the right questions with inquiry based learning or be able to type 40 words a minute?

The report offers a high-level step-by-step guide to deploying Android tablets (or really any tablet like an iPad is also applicable to an extent) that would be helpful to anyone considering a deployment.
KF: Every discussion around the educational use of iPads introduces the question "what about other platforms?". While this report indicates there were some very desireable outcomes there is a strong suggestion that the technology employed was fraught with technical issues:
"Although Android devices have a number of desirable qualities, including a lower cost and an open ecosystem for apps, the relative immaturity of the Android ecosystem prevents us from being able to recommend Android devices for school implementations at this time."
