Spark Conservation with Backyard Photography

Spark Conservation with Backyard Photography | Rainforest CLASSROOM | Scoop.it

"As a child, I collected picture books of animals and mapped out trips I hoped to take as an adult. I spent my entire childhood longing for the opportunity to travel to somewhere exotic where I could stand in awe of and photograph real nature and real wildlife. I was infatuated with the vast landscapes of the Serengeti and the hidden world of the Amazon rainforest. I never realized my backyard was home to countless exotic creatures living in highly complex ecosystems.

As the founder of the International League of Conservation Photographers, Cristina Mittermeier is at the forefront of the modern movement for using photography for environmentalism.
The Morpho Institute's insight:

Mittermeier and the iLCP conduct RAVEs (Rapid Assessment Visual Expeditions) which deploys a team of photographers to a site facing some environmental danger to see if images of “what is about to be lost” might change the course of events.

Why not deploy your students to a nature park near you and conduct your own local RAVE to promote awareness and conservation?
