Graig Angarella's curator insight,

This article explained how educational institutions are using social media. Some of the points stated, I expected to hear, however other things were very surprising. For starters, about 80% of educational institutions are now using Twitter, and 96% are using Facebook. The main objectives they have in using social media are engaging alumni, improving their brand image, and increasing awareness. One thing that caught my attention was that 68% of institutions have a LinkedIn page. The reason I found this important, was because it just shows that even in high school, social media can be extremely useful in that you could even use it as an opportunity to broadcast yourself to say, the college of your dreams. You could fine-tune your LinkedIn profile and show such institutions more than just what the basic college application might show. Now on the flip side, institutions that use social media can also get a closer look at the real you, so be careful what you post online! |
