Sigstr, an e-mail marketing startup based in Indianapolis, says it has raised $5 million in Series A funding.
The investment was led by Hyde Park Venture Partners, which was joined by HubSpot (NYSE: HUBS), Battery Ventures, Grand Ventures, and High Alpha Capital. Investors have pumped a total of $7 million into Sigstr, a company spokeswoman says in an e-mail to Xconomy.
Sigstr’s software turns corporate e-mail signatures into a marketing channel, where staff can reinforce branding strategies and tailor sales pitches. Its clickable “call-to-action banners” are meant to stoke awareness of events, product updates, job openings, and internal communications. Sigstr says its customers include Angie’s List, Terminus, United Way, and the Indiana Pacers basketball team.

The latest LinkedIn news—a foray into offering email marketing services by year’s end.
The pressure is obviously on for LinkedIn to recreate some of its past successes as a public company and deliver value for its $26 billion price tag. And dipping its big toe into email marketing services—or what it’s calling “Matched Audiences,” is probably a necessary move.
In a nutshell, Matched Audiences is a targeting solution that is already in use by brands on Twitter, Facebook, and Pinterest, so LinkedIn is a little late to the game with this one. Marketers can load up their email lists and use those lists to target prospects on LinkedIn. It’s anticipated the Matched Audiences functionality will roll out in November of 2017, but early access will be given to Marketo, Eloqua, and LiveRamp users. The platform is expected to later allow the uploading of any email list later in the year.

Cloud giant Rackspace has revealed that it’s spinning out Mailgun, its email automation platform for developers, as an independent company.
Founded in 2010, Y Combinator graduate Mailgun provides the backend technology that lets third-party developers send, receive, and track emails from within their own applications — it lets them know whether emails have been opened and then measure their impact. Rackspace acquired Mailgun in 2012 and has since offered Mailgun’s APIs as a value-added service alongside its core cloud offering.
The decision to spin Mailgun out comes less than six months after Rackspace itself was subject to a $4.3 billion deal to take the company private, after having traded as a public company since 2008.

No email marketing solution will have everything, but when you compare Campaign Monitor vs. MailChimp side by side, MailChimp seems to offer more in the way of customization and analytics. Marketers who already use campaign analytics and segment their customer lists in another platform, on the other hand, will find Campaign Monitor a solid choice with a pleasant user experience.

- Demands for lower and lower email costs are pushing vendors out of business. Independent email vendors can’t recoup costs when email CPMs average $.50 or less.
- Surviving vendors will shift to higher revenue streams. Enterprise vendors will have to shift business models in order to accommodate increasingly “free” email delivery.
- Email pricing will look more like software licensing than media buying. Because marketers, not IT users, buy email marketing, its pricing originated like a media buy: the CPM. But if email service providers turn into marketing agencies or cross-channel campaign software, then pricing will also shift to accommodate.
- Vendor stability becomes a key selection criteria.

AWeber introduced its new platform that makes email automation easy and more impactful for the way its customers grow their businesses.
Campaigns is a simple-to-use tool whereby emails are sent based on pre-established triggers and automated actions. When a subscriber engages with your email marketing campaign in some way, such as signing up for your email list, Campaigns triggers it to respond--automatically--with specified email messages. The benefits for business owners and marketers are:
- Campaigns makes it easier to keep in touch with customers and prospects
- emails sent based on predetermined triggers ensures customers receive messages that are relevant to them
- the automated function gives users time back in their days to do more with their businesses
Campaigns is just the beginning of a host of automation tools AWeber will release by the end of the year. To learn more about it, its features and how it works, visit AWeber online.
