TOC Practioners Alliance or TOCPA | Theory Of Constraints | Scoop.it

TOCPA is an international non-trading organization for TOC Practitioners. TOCPA is aimed to give its members the opportunity and ability to grow their knowledge and address practical issues and challenges that they face in their quest of brining TOC to their organizations or to their clients.

By bringing together members that have a deep knowledge of TOC – such as faculty members of Goldratt Schools, and consultants that have been working with many organizations in their areas and key leaders from companies that have been using TOC – we have created the platform where the strength of the group works together. TOCPA motto is «Sharing experience».

The importance of focus

The importance of focus | Theory Of Constraints | Scoop.it

From Vector Consulting Group blog.

As Pareto himself pointed out, the 80-20 rule is correct only when there are no interdependencies between the elements of the system. [...] one might say that in organizations 0.1 percent of the elements dictate 99.9 percent of the result. This realization gives new meaning to the word focus.

Green: if there is any DE (Desirable Effect) (rare, but possible);

Pink: the root causes (the roots of the tree);

Pink with the initials "UDE" at the top left: the most visible UDE's (usually the leaves of the tree);

Yellow: the intermediate UDE’s (the trunk and branches of the tree);

Blue: rarely used, but if some other information is needed, I use a blue box to show it (some assumption, for example).

The Thinking Processes by FrankLangeFocus

Philip Marris's insight:

The Theory of Constraints (TOC) was introduced to the world in 1985 in a book entitled "The Goal" by renown Dr. Eliyahu M. Goldratt. The TOC is a model of verifiable philosophy: by understanding how people think, leads us to understand the world around us, and because we understand it we can improve. The theory of constraints provides answers to three simple questions: What to change, to what to change to and how to cause the change.

"We All Fall Down" TOC for Healthcare - book by Julie Wright & Russ King

Who hasn’t gone into a shop or workplace at some point and seen the sign ‘You don’t have to be mad to work here, but it helps!’? This over-used phrase becomes very real in the case of Beth Seager, an Admissions Manager in a busy NHS hospital. Someone with very little authority but a huge amount of responsibility. She has to find beds for patients in a hospital that is claimed to work at 98% capacity – an impressive achievement that means the maximum time a bed is empty is less than 15 minutes. It’s best not to mention the waiting times.Unfortunately there are far more patients than beds and no money to bring more beds in. Someone has to decide whether a bed is taken by a patient who needs an extensive operation that will allow them to live a few more months, a breast cancer patient, or someone with two broken legs. Added to that, Beth is struggling against her caustic boss ‘Fearsome Fran’ and her meddling assistant ‘Evil Eddy’ who tries to undermine her and take her job.

Most probably the best LTP software currently available.

Unfortunately - and since 2008, in spite of many requests for feature improvement by several users from all corners of the globe - still unable to this date to export diagrams in PDF with entity content AS TEXT!

This prevents any global dissemination of Flying Logic-edited LTP documents via the Googlesphere - or even a simple text search on your preferred workstation.

A very surprisingly persistent CONSTRAINT of an otherwise effective product.
Keith Parris's comment, September 4, 2013 10:14 PM
I usually find that when I am mapping a process it goes thru many iterations. Flying logic simplifies this process as it automatically adjusts the layout for me.

Automotive suppliers in India use TOC - Article in Automotive Horizon | Theory Of Constraints | Scoop.it

While lean manufacturing is the way to go, some of them are trying out a different kind of lean — not the traditional just-in-time (JIT) — by trying to decongest the pipeline itself and looking at the Theory of Constraints (ToC) for inspiration, according to a BS report. ToC is making them agile by freeing up their working capital faster and increasing capacity for diversification, noted the report. ...

The Choice - A review of Goldratt's final book by Ted Hutchin | Theory Of Constraints | Scoop.it

The book[...] covers a range of issues and experiences that he has had, and all in the framework of a conversation with his daughter Efrat. The first lesson [...] focuses on the importance of understanding what is meant by the term “freedom of choice” [...] We start with one of Eli’s usual stories about the ability to tap into an opportunity when most see none. What is it about Eli’s ability to see clearly what others do not? Of course, in the story he covers some of the core issues that have affected the world-wide sales of TOC for many years, primarily the inability to really see the scale of opportunity that sits before us. "The Goal" - One of the 25 Most Influential Business Management Books according to Time Magazine

"The Goal" - One of the 25 Most Influential Business Management Books according to Time Magazine | Theory Of Constraints | Scoop.it
There's never a shortage of new books about how to be more effective in business. Most of them are forgettable, but here are 25 that changed the way we think about management
"Eliyahu Goldratt's The Goal is unusual among business management books for at least two reasons. First, Goldratt wasn't a titan of industry, a b-school professor, or even a consultant, but rather a physicist. Second, The Goal is a novel. Centered on a production manager named Alex Rogo who has three months to turn around a deficient, unprofitable manufacturing plant, The Goal explains the "Theory of Constraints," which among other points incorporates the idiom, "A chain is only as strong as its weakest link;" and focuses on bottlenecks, the great hindrances to productivity. Rogo uses the Socratic method to help fix his marriage, then applies it to his plant crew, coming up with steps to solve the plant's problems. The Goalhas been in print since 1984, and a revised third edition was released on the book's 20th anniversary. So does Rogo achieve his goal? You'll have to read it to find out." To see the full list of 25:http://www.time.com/time/specials/packages/completelist/0,29569,2086680,00.html
