Stuff that #AI is good for is human augmentation: the case here transforms a web page into a video clip #AI #augmentedHumans | WHY IT MATTERS: Digital Transformation | Scoop.it

URL2Video, a research prototype pipeline to automatically convert a web page into a short video, given temporal and visual constraints provided by the content owner. URL2Video extracts assets (text, images, or videos) and their design styles (including fonts, colors, graphical layouts, and hierarchy) from HTML sources and organizes the visual assets into a sequence of shots, while maintaining a look-and-feel similar to the source page. Given a user-specified aspect ratio and duration, it then renders the repurposed materials into a video that is ideal for product and service advertising.

Farid Mheir's insight:

WHY IT MATTERS: creating videos from web page content illustrates the power of AI-augmented human capabilities. Expect this in all fields: humans create content and AI generates alternative options that are convincing enough to fool others into thinking "a human did it". Generative design, text summary, netflix thumbnail creation photoshop image improvements are all examples that can be leveraged today.

The internet has changed the way we work, interact and learn with others across the world. How many people in the world are online, and how has this changed over time? Explore global and country-level data on internet access and technology.

Farid Mheir's insight:

WHY IT MATTERS: we take it for granted because 90% of the population in Canada has access to the Internet. This summary of facts about Internet adoption should make us all realize that: 1) the growth has been very fast 2) not everyone in the world has the same chance 3) newer technologies based on Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things and soon AR/VR will leverage this infrastructure to deliver even more transformation

Algorithm-Driven Design: How #AI Is Changing Design

Algorithm-Driven Design: How #AI Is Changing Design | WHY IT MATTERS: Digital Transformation | Scoop.it

I’ve been following the idea of algorithm-driven design for several years now and have collected some practical examples. The tools of the approach can help us to construct a UI, prepare assets and content, and personalize the user experience. The information, though, has always been scarce and hasn’t been systematic. However, in 2016, the technological foundations of these tools became easily accessible, and the design community got interested in algorithms, neural networks and artificial intelligence (AI). Now is the time to rethink the modern role of the designer.

Farid Mheir's insight:

WHY IT MATTERS

We think of AI having an impact in fields that require human repetitive work but rarely think it applies to creative activities such as web or logo design. Well of course, you are wrong and this paper explains why with a number of very powerful examples and tools.

Top 12 Emerging #Digital #Workplace Technologies- leveraging personal digital tech with your employees

Top 12 Emerging #Digital #Workplace Technologies- leveraging personal digital tech with your employees  | WHY IT MATTERS: Digital Transformation | Scoop.it
Give employees more agility by bringing these consumer technologies to work.
Farid Mheir's insight:

A short run down on personal technologies coming our way soon.

WHY THISI S IMPORTANT

I've been speaking about the impact of digital technologies to transformation our personal lives and the opportunities this brings to business for a while in my "me.com" and "we.com" conferences (http://fmcs.digital/conferences). Looks like there is even more to it than originally I anticipated with the convergence of InternetOfThings, AI, BigData, and wearables. Your employees in the future will be even more connected and digital and companies should take notice and leverage it to 1) improve productivity 2) support work-life-wellness balance 3) tap the social networks to their benefits (ie. social recruiting).

The Rise Of Bots: A Timeline Of Major VC-Backed Bot Startups via @Wuxia

The Rise Of Bots: A Timeline Of Major VC-Backed Bot Startups via @Wuxia | WHY IT MATTERS: Digital Transformation | Scoop.it
15 VC-backed bot startups have raised their first VC rounds so far this year.
Farid Mheir's insight:

A review of recent investments in startups that build intelligent bots for messaging apps and other tools we interact with.

WHY THIS IS IMPORTANT

With 50% of mobile users that have not downloaded an app in the previous month (http://fortune.com/2016/09/16/smartphone-users-apps/), the future of our interactions with our mobile devices will be concentrated - limited? - to a small number of high profile apps from the big names - Facebook, Google, Apple. How can companies compete? They will embed intelligent bots to listen and converse with their customers, employees and partners using intelligent bots. Soon you'll be ordering pizza by chatting with a dominos pizza bot or getting stock tips for an automated financial expert. Believe it.
