2017 Digital Trials and Pilots evaluation » NZQA

NZQA’s findings from the 2017 NCEA Digital Trials and Pilots evaluation are being used to inform the 2018 project, as the organisation works towards having NCEA examinations available online by 2020.

As part of the Digital Trials and Pilots project, feedback was sought from the students, teachers, markers and examination centre managers who participated in the Trials and Pilots. This feedback has been valuable in providing insight into their experience, which is already informing the next steps NZQA takes with digital assessment in collaboration with schools and the wider education sector.
Feedback from students to the surveys shows we are on the right track. These are good indicative findings on which to build our future work.

Case study 2 – Personalised feedback at scale – Feedback for Learning | Rubrics, Assessment and eProctoring in Education | Scoop.it
Too often, it is felt that personalised feedback can only be provided in subjects with small learner enrolments. However, this case demonstrates that personalised, high-quality feedback can be provided consistently and at scale in a large first-year subject.

In this core Health subject, undertaken by learners from a broad range of disciplines, learners complete a series of three journal entries as their major assessment piece. Learners receive audio feedback from the same educator across their three journal entries, fostering a sense of personal connection between learner and educator. Educators also receive audio feedback through the feedback moderation process, which both ensures consistency amongst the large team of educators and supports the development of educators’ own feedback practices.

Digital Assessment Vision: a design principles approach » NZQA

The New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) has initiated work to transform the way external assessment related to the National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA) is offered, including making changes to the supporting operating model by moving towards digital assessment.

While an important milestone signalling the direction and intent will be to have all NCEA examinations available online by 2020, our vision is for transformed assessment – a 21st century approach to assessment online for anyone, anytime.

NZQA’s 21st century approach to assessment will build on the pedagogical changes taking place in classrooms now and known, when implemented effectively, to improve student engagement in learning, student achievement and their readiness for higher education or employment.
