Artificial intelligence has advanced rapidly in the last five years. This talk intends to provide high-level answers to questions like: What can the evolution of intelligence in the animal kingdom teach us about the evolution of AI? How should people who are not AI researchers view the societal transformation that is now underway? What are some of the social, economic, and political implications of this technology as it exists now? What will future AI systems likely be capable of, and what are the largest expected impacts of these systems? The talk will be understandable for non-computer scientists.

In Human + Machine, Accenture leaders Paul R. Daugherty and H. James (Jim) Wilson show that the essence of the AI paradigm shift is the transformation of all business processes within an organization - whether related to breakthrough innovation, everyday customer service, or personal productivity habits. As humans and smart machines collaborate ever more closely, work processes become more fluid and adaptive, enabling companies to change them on the fly - or to completely reimagine them. AI is changing all the rules of how companies operate.
Farid Mheir's insight:
WHY IT MATTERS: I recommend reading this book (not listening to audible because too many concepts/tables). It does lay out a convincing path towards autonomous AI that goes through a period of merging humans *with* AI. Worth reading and referring to during strategy sessions.
Companies benefit from optimizing collaboration between humans and artificial intelligence. Five principles can help them do so: Reimagine business processes; embrace experimentation/employee involvement; actively direct AI strategy; responsibly collect data; and redesign work to incorporate AI and cultivate related employee skills. A survey of 1,075 companies in 12 industries found that the more of these principles companies adopted, the better their AI initiatives performed in terms of speed, cost savings, revenues, or other operational measures.
Farid Mheir's insight:

Farid Mheir's insight:
WHY IT MATTERS: the list provides a great starting point to get a shot of digital transformation leadership. The focus being mostly on technology, you should look elsewhere for impact on society, work, and life that digital transformation brings.
The Fourth Industrial Revolution represents a fundamental change in the way we live, work and relate to one another. It is a new chapter in human development, enabled by extraordinary technology advances commensurate with those of the first, second and third industrial revolutions. These advances are merging the physical, digital and biological worlds in ways that create both huge promise and potential peril. The speed, breadth and depth of this revolution is forcing us to rethink how countries develop, how organisations create value and even what it means to be human. The Fourth Industrial Revolution is about more than just technology-driven change; it is an opportunity to help everyone, including leaders, policy-makers and people from all income groups and nations, to harness converging technologies in order to create an inclusive, human-centred future. The real opportunity is to look beyond technology, and find ways to give the greatest number of people the ability to positively impact their families, organisations and communities.
Farid Mheir's insight:

Welcome to the now “annual” Canadian AI Ecosystem Map. What a year it’s been. The point of creating this map was to emphasize that the strength lies in the Canadian AI Ecosystem, as opposed to just one city’s. This year, we’ve seen ties strengthen, but also some weaknesses exposed. What I see now is a corridor of cities, each remarkable in their own right, coming together into a cohesive form that is comparable in size and influence with the US East Coast or Paris and London.
Farid Mheir's insight:
WHY IT MATTERS: AI is moving at the speed of light it seems and this short post with accompanying full report is a must read to stay in touch with the state of AI in Canada.
